About Murphy Brothers Contracting

Murphy Brothers Contracting, Inc. is owned and operated by brothers and partners, Christopher and Sean Murphy. What began in their childhood home in 1979 as local remodelers has grown into one of southern Fairfield and Westchester counties' premier construction companies, known for beautifully designed custom homes, picture perfect whole home renovations, and distinctive commercial projects particularly area golf, beach and boating clubs, building residential quality into all their club projects and commercial work. Headquartered in Mamaroneck, NY, the company offers their own line of custom cabinetry and millwork as well.

Murphy Brothers believes that building "green" simply means building smart. When and where possible, all construction whether it's commercial or residential, renovation or new, should be environmentally responsible, energy efficient and beautifully designed. Working together with a first-class design team, they can help make their clients’ projects "green", saving the environment and saving money.

Recent recipients of the Business Council of Westchester's Small Business Success Award and inductees into the Westchester Business Hall of Fame, the firm was also prominently featured in a recent issue of 914 Inc Magazine for their many business and civic achievements. Sean and Chris Murphy continue to be involved in the company’s daily operations; building solid long-lasting community relationships while building residential and commercial beautiful projects.

The company mission statement has always been: "Murphy Brothers Contracting, Inc. is committed to the goal of becoming the #1 building contractor in all aspects of workmanship and customer service in its local market. Our first priority is to serve our clients with the highest level of honesty and workmanship. Our integrity will never be compromised. Customer referrals and repeat business are the backbone of our company."

Chris and Sean Murphy know that success in the high end construction market depends on solid collaboration between their talented project managers and support staff, their teamwork of dedicated subcontractors, and dependable suppliers. The Murphy Brothers value the relationship they have developed with owner Shelly Kahan and his devoted team. For over three decades, Murphy Brothers Contracting has been building A Tradition of Quality in homes and light commercial projects across southern Fairfield and Westchester counties using Interstate + Lakeland Lumber products.

Greenwich "Back-Country" Classic Horse Farm

HBRA-CT HOBI Award winner for Best Custom Home (in its class) Professional Builder Design Awards: Custom Home Silver Award

Project Description

This 11,000(+) square foot custom home was designed by Greenwich architect Paul Marchese in the Shingle Style, developed in the late 19th Century by architect Stanford White, a style primarily used as one of the great American ‘cottage’ styles by the wealthy who kept large estates and working farms as second country homes, many of which were located in Greenwich, CT. Built on a 13 acre working horse farm, complete with stable, indoor riding arena, grazing paddocks, run-in sheds and equipment garage with groom’s quarters, all the buildings were constructed as part of the same construction project. Mixing tradition with innovative technology, the wood-framed home features spray foam insulation and a geothermal heating and cooling system. It also contains (6) bedrooms with full baths, a private library, work-out studio, sauna, wine cellar, pool, indoor cabana and wet-bar, plus (2) separate laundry rooms, and (4) car garage.

Innis Arden Cottage, Old Greenwich, CT

HBRA-CT HOBI award Winner: Best Exterior restoration WHV AIA Award winner: Honor Award Connecticut Trust Preservation Award

Project Description

The 4,000 square-foot, two-story Innis Arden Cottage, designed by the pioneering woman architect Katherine C. Budd is an excellent example of the early Craftsman bungalow style, and was originally the guesthouse on the estate of J. Kennedy Tod, a financier at the turn of the last century to the railroad and mining industries. The exterior restoration project which was coordinated by architects Krist Dodaro and Allen Ross as part of a LEED project, involved major structural work, including rebuilding the most of the foundation. The roof and siding were replaced with historically correct cedar shingles. The second floor dormers were restored to their original design. Historically correct windows and new custom milled exterior doors were installed throughout. The porches on the east and west sides of the building were rebuilt to their original design while adding an entrance for individuals with disabilities. As part of this phase of the project, a new electrical service was provided.
